About Me

Barrett and Jordyn are two young artists who have currently endulged themselves in a mural and kenetic sculpture project in a local show space. On this blog they will be showing every step of the way and the progress made. Media: Mural: Wall paint, Spray paint Kinetic Sculpture: Brass, Copper, and Aluminum foil, Wood, Black paint Dimensions: Currently Unknown Subject: Cherry Blossom Tree In Japan, the tree represents death and rebirth- new awakenings. This plays in quite well with the idea of a clean slate, identifying as a young artist. Finding yourself being, The Epiphany. Barrett Silhouette Painting of Barrett watering the Cherry Blossom Tree, representing the young artist nourishing themselves and allowing themselves to grow as artists. Color Barrett Silhouette Painting will depict Barrett freeing sparrows from her hands; representing setting free goals and letting them shine. This shows a young artist actively expressing artistic personality. Sparrow Instillation Flying sparrows represent goals and ideas. They will be all around the room and move up into a chandelier. The fixture is the Epiphany/light/ideas growing.

Progress

Spring break painting, the beginning of hours at the Creamery.

The space was primed for us by John Chambers. His help was a life saver and allowed us to make fantastic progress before the IB Art Show, April 1st durnig first friday art walk.
We easily conquered our fear of ladders with the lack of other options.

Barrett admiring her work.

First bird hung on the wall hours before the IB Art Show.
Progress is being made and the project should be completed this summer. The mural will be furthered when we obtain scaffolding again. We'll continue to keep you updated! Let us know what you think of the progress.

Fundraising!

To fund raise for our project we have decided to create prints that will be sold for $5 apiece. The prints will consist of a cherry blossom silhouette and text explaining what we are fundraising for. We will begin with 100 prints and sell them in The Creamery, Central High School, and other locations around Springfield. The money raised will cover our costs for supplies and left over money will be donated to the Springfield Regional Arts Council to support young aspiring artists. More details to come. Let us know if you're interested in donating!

Day 1: Seeing the Space

We spent our first day sitting in the new space, taking pictures and continuing thoughts of color to fill the walls. Although there is a lot of cleaning of cobwebs in our near future the opportunity is exciting. Below you will find pictures of our new home. Through the next few months check back to see how it evolves.
